Everybody took what they needed

Is it possible to put the care back into the care system? Imagine if leaving care did not mean either going to prison, homeless or becoming pregnant. These are the outcomes for 11,000 who are currently leaving the care system only 6% (660) end up in higher education. The government spent 9.8 Billion in 2019- 2020 on Children's social care ( care being the word) but yet so many are being let down, that they just expect bad things to happen. A large number have their lives genetically mapped out and most people are expecting only one outcome for these young women. Which is for the young women to have babies and for their children to follow suit. There is an unconscious bias that surrounds these young women, and most are written off from a young age. 80,080 children are currently in the care system whether that be foster care, children's home, secure unit or semi-independent living. Within that number 30,970 came into care in March 2020 and 29,590 left. Total 480 11,220 31,260 O

Beauty On a budget

Beauty on a budget If there us one think being homeless and not having money to spend on expensive lotions and potions is there is always something in the cupboard or garden. The cupboard or garden, yes, if you look on the back of most of the lotions and potions you use, you will find, if you use natural products, that is,  most of the ingredients are in your cupboard. I was homeless for almost 3 years and I would stay I had really bad skin due to the fact that I drank a lot and I smoked and ate the wrong things, which had to have an outlet and that was my face. Some people have it that outlet their backs or legs or chest mine like so many was my face. I did not realise how bad it was until I have looked back on the Facebook memories timeline and seem just how bad it actually was. I will put it down to not having a great beauty regime that was a dye hard routine, so I would not say I moisturised every night etc, It was more of an as and when. When I moved into my own solo flat, still

How food people brings people together

How food brings people together What's your favourite food, who do you like to eat it with? do you cook it or do you go and sit in your favourite restaurant to have it?. What was the best time you had with people, where food made the event what it was?   I think we forget the importance of food and how it keeps people connected. I mean how many special occasions have you been to or even arranged where food was the centre of the arrangement?. Think back to all of the times and moments that you have shared with loved ones and friends. I think the power food has in bringing people together and breaking silent spaces, its ability to act as a great conversation starter.  How many dates have you had where you have gone for food? Most people go for a meal on their first date because it allows for two people to get to know each other, talk and share experiences. When you meet up with friends you go for a meal for a chat or even when it is a child's birthday there is always food involve

Case study

How a holiday can raise your aspirations  Case study Joan had her first child when she was 18 and spent most of her life thereafter have children. By the time Joan was 32, Joan had given birth to 6 children who by herself she took care of them.  Joan had been on some small holidays in the past with her children as they were growing up mainly ones that advertised in the newspaper saved for families from disadvantaged backgrounds. This scheme the paper ran gave families like Joans the opportunity to go a holiday once a year at discounted prices to places such as Haven or Butlins across the country. It was a start for Joan as she would never be able to afford to go aboard with all six children. Joan had had a few jobs working at varies places part-time, in the past nothing that really stuck, not much would or could when you have 6 children to take care of who do all doing different things.  On Joans 40th birthday she decided to book a holiday for herself and youngest son aboard to Benidor

Holidays

Holidays and why they mean so much. when you go on holiday its a time to reset those batteries that you spend all year draining. When you are booking a holiday it is like all you work for and look forward to all year. You and your partner or friend sit and plan work out how you will pay for it and that's all in the excitement the anticipation its all part of the process.  The feeling you get the week before you are due to leave, and if we are all honest most people finishing mentally the week before. The night before everyone is restless and excited singles going away with friends will have a few drinks, those that have been going away with families for the children it is like the night before Christmas. The next day its all rushing everyone cant wait to get to the airport the excitement that everyone is feeling is electric or not in some cases when the kids have already started messing around in excitement. The plane ride is the longest, it always seems longer when you are on the
